KROBO NURSING TRAINING COLLEGE: IN RETROSPECT AND  CURRENT CHALLENGES.

One thing many people may not be aware of is that when I entered mainstream politics in 2005, one of my primary objectives was to establish a post-secondary school institution in Techiman.

Through persistent efforts and extensive preparatory work, by 2010 we had put in place the necessary infrastructure to begin what was intended to become the Holy Family Nursing and Midwifery College. However, we encountered challenges in securing the required accreditation and affiliation.

The then Director of Training, Dr Chris Bayere, advised that we should begin with a certificate programme while we waited for the approval of the Diploma and Midwifery programmes. However, the Catholic Church objected to this arrangement and insisted that we maintain the original plan.

Faced with this challenge, I decided to explore other options and initiated the establishment of a non-degree nursing programme at Krobo.

Fortunately, the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church provided six classrooms constructed through its own initiative by the GETFund, to support the commencement of the school. I also mobilised my own resources of about GH¢12,000 to renovate a primary school block to make it suitable for a Community Nursing Training College.

With the support of the Techiman Municipal Assembly and GETFund, additional facilities were provided at the new site to enable the school to operate. I personally donated a brand-new Tata minibus valued at $30,000 to support the institution.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The school enjoyed peace, stability, and academic excellence. Two years ago, at  KNUST, the college was adjudged the Best Health Training Institution in Ghana, and the overall best graduating student came from the school.

It is therefore deeply worrying that the Principal who led the institution to these remarkable achievements was removed without any clear justification.
